Become More Healthy
Become more healthy Many people think getting healthier involves a long list of complex diet rules and time spent at the gym, but becoming more healthy is really about changing your daily habits. Developing healthy routines around eating, relaxation, being active and sleeping can help you feel great and lower your risk of illness and injury.
Start small and be patient – it takes time to establish new, healthy routines. Set a goal of one change to your daily habits and gradually build from there. For example, if you always eat dinner in front of the television after work, try leaving your walking shoes by the door so you can slip them on and go for a 10 minute walk after you get home each evening. This is a great way to unwind, spend quality time with your partner or friends and get more physical activity into your day.
Try to add more vegetables and fruit, whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy to your meals and snacks. Avoid foods high in saturated fat, salt and sugar, as well as trans-fats, which are often found in processed baked goods, fast foods and some sauces.
Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days, ideally including muscle-strengthening activities two or more times a week. Adding regular stretching breaks to your daily routine, like when you’re reaching for items on a high shelf at the grocery store or sitting down to a meal, can also boost your fitness.
